This house was designed in 1911 by Charles Haynes for Margaret Calvert. It was included in the 1913 edition of Homes and Gardens of the Pacific Coast (which was, however, published by a relative of the owner). It was also noted in the 1979 historic resources survey, which called it “very fine.” It is significant for its expression of the Prairie style with deep eaves, strong horizontal divisions and a stepper string course. Charles A. Haynes practiced architecture in Seattle and Aberdeen, with various partners, from 1907 until 1940. He designed many residences, apartment houses and commercial buildings in both cities. One of the best known local examples of his work is the former Butterworth Mortuary on East Pine Street. The city historic resoruces survye of 1975 called iit "very fine." check brochure
This house ahs a side gabled fprm with a double-gabled front façade; all the gables have deep enclosed eaves. The lower level is clad with wood shingles, with stucco above. Two brown string courses run acros the upper level--one at the top of the windows and the other above the windows, stepping up at the window bays. There isa gabled entry porch at the northwest corner and a large three-part bay window opposite it on the first story. Most other windows are fairly simple one-over-one, most arranged singly. The windows may be newer replacements.
