In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance.
This is a prominent structure in the Green Lake community, representing both an early religious congregation and a neighborhood fraternal organization. The Green Lake Congregational Church built the building in 1921, and remained here until 1959. At that time the building was purchased by the Sergeant Fletcher Daniels Post #4137 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. It has been used as their meeting place since that time. It is currently also used by the Seattle Girls Choir, for rehearsal space and offices.
This simple church has a strong presence due to its red brick cladding, three story height and its siting right at the sidewalk. The main fa├žade, on the south side, features a two-story arched window in the center, flanked by smaller windows on both the second and third floors. Those on the third floor are original 8/8 sash, while those on the second floor have been replaced with aluminum sash. To the west on this elevation is the main entry, with a gabled pediment supported by acanthus corbels,. A similar entry is around the corner on the west elevation. A 9-light arched window brings light into the entry hall. Additional arched windows and 8-light double-hung sash are seen on the north and west elevations. The short square bell tower has a gable and a large louvered arched vent on each side. The wood cornice has sections of turned balusters. The building is in largely original condition, except for the replacement of three original windows with aluminum sash.
