Summary for 907 14TH AVE / Parcel ID 2254501145 / Inv # 0

Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: American Foursquare, Queen Anne Neighborhood: First Hill
Built By: Year Built: 1902
This is a fairly typical example of American Foursquare architecture with residual Queen Anne detailing exhibiting a fairly high degree of integrity despite renovation of the siding and minor porch and window modifications.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattleā€™s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, Elsie E. Hemmerly apparently owned the house from perhaps as early as 1924 until at least 1937. It appears the structure was acquired by Gordon Messanger in 1954, by James Alexander and wife in 1960, by Pacific National Bank in 1964, and by John W. Creighton in 2000. The current owners, Roy Cundiff and Ashley Ball, acquired the property from Creighton in 2007.

King County Property Record Card (c. 1938-1972) Washington State Archives

This house was built in 1902 (King County Property Record Card; King County GIS Center Property Report, accessed July 22, 2008). The roofing and siding were replaced with newer materials, and the surface detailing simplified, by 1958, but the siding has since been returned to something closely resembling its original appearance.
