This building is important as a rare, relatively intact example of a late 19th century commercial building. It enhances are knowledge of residential development in Seattle and, along with the two buildings to its east and south, reminds us that this was a very early neighborhood commerical hug when Seattle's first streetcar line traversed Yesler Way and Jackson Street. It was built abourt 1895 and appears on the 1904 Sanborn Map as a drugstore. 1937 and 1951 photographs confirm that the building was th long-time location of Weed's Drugstore. (Ownership records indicate that M. A. Weed acquired adjacent buildings in 1912 and 1915).
This two story commercial vernacular building is characterized by a decorative cornice and corner entrance. The storefront is boarded up but the corner entrance retains its scroll brackets as does the corner window above. The original clapboard siding is covered with asbestos shingles. Windows are one over one double hung sash.
