This house is important for its form and original function and, although fire damaged, is included in the inventory for the information it offers about 19th century multi-family housing in Seattle. It is one of the few remaining 19th century apartment houses that retains enough character defining details to convey its historic identity. This building has the potential of contibuting to the historic streetscape.
This 40' x 41' duplex is sheltered by a hipped roof with symmetrical front gables. Typical of Queen Anne architecture, no surface of the building is unembellished. The gables and second floor are clad in square cut and fish scale wooden shingles. The shallow eave is bracketed. Although [it is currently] obscured by foliage, the first floor as it appeared in a 1937 photograph had two cutaway bays with scrollwork corner brackets. A porch between the two sheltered symmetrical apartment entrances. Stained glass transoms decorated each bay.
