Summary for 2316 11th AVE / Parcel ID 4423100150 / Inv #

Historic Name: Creighton, Gordon, Residence Common Name:
Style: Tudor Neighborhood: Capitol Hill
Built By: Year Built: 1927
This is the first of two similar houses in this block, built in 1927. They were most likely built by a contractor, probably using a pattern book design. The original builder and owner are not known. In 1937 it was owned by a life insurance company, probably after having been repossessed; it later had unstable ownership, with six owner sin the 1960s alone. The house was quite well fitted out when constructed, with mahogany woodwork, two tile bathrooms, a tiled kitchen, hardwood floors, and a tile-faced fireplace. The entry has been altered, with a gabled portico replacing the original arched hood.
This simple example of a builder’s Tudor has a steep side gable roof, with a prominent steep gabled dormer at the north end of the main façade. The dormer swoops down above the entry in the center of the façade. The entry is sheltered by a small gabled portico with square wood columns. To the south is a large hip roof dormer. Cladding is brick on the first story, with stucco on the gable ends and the dormer. Windows are predominantly six-over-one leaded sash, with a group of three in the front gable, with a pair and a single one in the dormer. The first story has two three part windows. A garage entrance is at the south side of the main façade, below one of the three-part windows.
