Summary for 2124 2nd AVE / Parcel ID 1977201160 / Inv #

Historic Name: Hoover Company Common Name: vacant
Style: Art Deco - PWA Moderne Neighborhood: Belltown
Built By: Year Built: 1949
This striking building was constructed for owners Blackstock & Hudson in 1949, a period when construction was reviving after World War II and many companies took advantage of Belltown's cheaper land prices to build offices close to downtown. This was the local office and warehouse for the Hoover Company, which sold vacuum cleaners and vacuum systems, perhaps to downtown businesses. It later housed the Underwood typewriter company, a very common use in this area. The building reflects a simplified Moderne style, notable for what looks like its vitrolite glass cladding on the first story; however, this may be another similar material rather than glass. There are two recessed entries with aluminum windows; those on the second floor appear to have been replaced.
