Historic Name: Unknown Common Name:
Style: Vernacular Neighborhood: South Park
Built By: Year Built: 1905
In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local).
This house is important for the information it yields about vernacular housing in South Park and for its potential to yield historical informaiton. Built prior to the Duwamish Rivers' alteration, it was across Valley Road (Dallas Avenue) from and facing the river. Esther Groves held title to this house in 1932.
This two story, pyramidal roofed box is a simple interpretation of the American Foursquare. It has narrow clapboard siding, one over one double hung wood sash windows and an uncharacteristic hipped roof bay projecting on the west side. The porch is an atypical steeply gabled stoop supported by turned posts. The house is set at an odd angle very closely to its 19th Century neighbor (to the west). It contributes to our knowledge of 19th Century South Park.
