RSJI Outcomes, Strategies and Actions (ROSA)
Welcome to ROSA, a searchable database of the City of Seattle’s work on the Race and Social Justice Initiative. City Department 2019 RSJI Work Plans will be available in the Fall of 2019.
Seattle City departments’ focus their RSJI work plans on nine Equity Areas: Education, Equitable Development, Criminal Justice, Health, Housing, Jobs, Environment, Service Equity, and Arts and Culture.
ROSA lets you view City departments’ current year work plans by department, Equity Area, and neighborhood. Work plans list the Equity Areas that each department is addressing and the neighborhoods that are impacted,
along with specific actions and due dates.

Equity Areas
Despite Seattle’s overall high standard of living, racial inequities exist in every indicator of personal and community well-being. The Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) is working to achieve racial equity in the lives of people who live and work in Seattle.
Equity Areas are social and economic cornerstones of successful thriving communities. Equity Areas are interrelated. A good job determines your family’s health care coverage, including critical preventative services. Your health is influenced by affordable transportation and safe neighborhoods. An educational system that supports our students fosters success in employment and innovation in our economy.
Yet racial inequities continue to exist in all equity areas. Racial inequities in access to well-paying jobs, affordable transportation and safe neighborhoods result in racially disparate health outcomes. An educational system that fails youth of color predicts our children’s job prospects and impacts the criminal justice system, creating a school to prison pipeline for some of our students. Racial inequities in one area have a compounding effect on other areas.
RSJI’s long-term goal is to end systemic racial inequities by addressing all equity areas.
