Historic Name: Bryant Cleaners Common Name: Top of the Hill
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Roosevelt
Built By: Year Built: 1931
This building is typical of those built in neighborhoods during the streetcar era, the 1920s-30s, and is more intact than most with its tile bulkhead and ornate canopy. It has always had a variety of small service businesses to serve local residents, including dry cleaners, barbers, a beauty shop and shoe repair. It currently has an Italian restaurant, a beauty salon and a shoe repair shop.
This commercial building has a gabled parapet with metal coping, wire-cut brick cladding and the original suspended metal canopy with decorative edging. The storefronts are intact, with metal sash and black tile bulkheads with a narrow band of gold tile. Two of the three recessed entries have the original wood-and-glass doors. The transoms above the canopy are intact but are boarded up. The east elevation is clad in red brick; there are three small windows, high up, that are filled in. The rear (north) elevation has clapboard cladding, original 10-light sash and a back door for each of the three stores.
