Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Vernacular Neighborhood: Central Area
Built By: Year Built: 1900

This single-family residence in the Squire Park neighborhood, between First Hill and the Central Area, was constructed in c. 1900. The Squire Park area developed between 1890 and 1910 as a residential neighborhood with single family homes and scattered apartment buildings. The nearby Yesler Way cable car line to Lake Washington opened in 1888 and transit lines and related commercial and residential development continued to expand,  as Seattle experienced a major population growth following the 1898 Alaska Gold Rush and into the first decades of the 20th Century.

This is a 1.5-story front –gabled house with asbestos shingle cladding and is of wood frame construction over a concrete block foundation and partial basement. The primary south elevation features a small projecting gabled portico entry and a hanging bay window with vinyl fixed sash picture window at the first story. A single vinyl sash sliding window is in the upper gable wall. Other windows are varied, including double hung wood sash, and wood sash with hinged sashes. It is a fairly typical vernacular dwelling of the 1900s, but does not retain a very high level of design integrity.
