Historic Name: Pacific Finance Co. House Common Name:
Style: Arts & Crafts - Craftsman Neighborhood: Fremont
Built By: Year Built: 1909
This distinctive and intact house is a good example of planbook sourced residential designs that were highly popular and prevalently used by home builders during this era. It was constructed in 1909-10 and is located in B.F. Day’s 1st Addition, which was platted in July 1889; it was constructed during an intense period of historic residential development. According to Permit # 82929 dated 10/20/1909, this house was constructed for $1,500.00, developed by the Pacific Finance Company and designed by Wm. Fishburn. The Pacific Finance Company was established ca. 1907 by W.A. Hutton (president) and H.E. Dunham (VP) with company offices housed downtown in the White Building. The Pacific Finance Company appears to have served as both the financier and the builder of the house. The original home owner and/or residents have not been identified. Subsequent owners included O.E. Meyer (1929) and H.R. Dunn (1960). Mr. Fishburn was listed as a marine engineer in the Polk’s Seattle City Directory (1910). No other buildings attributed to him have been identified.

Measures approx. 28’ x 32’ w/ concrete foundation and partial daylight basement. Front gable form with projecting gabled entry porch at north side. Prominent corner bay window located at south end of main elevation. Gabled dormer located at south elevation. Original or in-kind replacement horizontal (rustic) siding at first floor level and cedar shingles at gable ends. Original and/or matching double-hung Craftsman-style wooden windows appear to remain in place. Design of this house appears to be from a popular planbook source.
