Summary for 916 14TH AVE / Parcel ID 2254501480 / Inv # 0

Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Queen Anne - Cottage Neighborhood: First Hill
Built By: Year Built: 1904
This is an example of Queen Anne cottage architecture. It originally featured limited Queen Anne - Free Classic detailing, although the structure’s design integrity has been somewhat compromised by alterations.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, the house appears to have been owned by Elen [sic] Jones from about 1934 until at least 1937.

King County GIS Center Property Report (; accessed July 12, 2008)

King County Property Record Card (c. 1938-1972) Washington State Archives

This is a one story, shingle clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a half  basement. The rectangular plan is capped by a hipped roof with front facing rooftop dormer with moderate overhangs, and enclosed soffits.

This house was built in 1904. The King County Property Record Card indicates that there was some minor remodeling prior to 1937.

Since 1937, the front porch railing has been altered and the Tuscan columns that once supported the roof have been replaced with similarly sized, built-up square piers, the entry stairs have been replaced and made narrower, the front door has been replaced, the garage door has been replaced, and the top of the chimney has been modified.
