Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: American Foursquare Neighborhood: First Hill
Built By: Year Built: 1906
This is a good example of American Foursquare design exhibiting a fairy high degree of integrity, despite modifications to most of the windows.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattleā€™s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

A complete permit history, and a complete record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property, however, the house appears to have been owned by Emma Hecht from about 1920 until at least 1937.

This is a two story, clapboard and vertical board clad, wood frame single-family residence on a concrete foundation, over a half basement. Although the front porch appears to have been built on a concrete foundation, the back porch may have been erected on a post and beam foundation.

The rectangular plan is capped by a hip roof moderate overhangs and enclosed soffits. A hip roofed dormer is centered over the street facade.

The original dormer window and the upper sashes of the original cottage style double-hung windows were characterized by a pattern of narrow peaked rectangular panes and small triangular panes often associated with Queen Anne design. These original divided sashes have been replaced by sashes featuring a regular pattern of six or eight regular panes. Together with the horizontal emphasis provided by the wide built-up frieze and mid height belt course, these new window sashes give the foursquare design a slightly more modern Prairie style appearance.

This structure was built in 1906. It was renovated in 1989, according to the
King County GIS Center Property Report.
