Summary for 123 24TH AVE / Parcel ID 0007600095 / Inv # 0

Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Queen Anne, Queen Anne - Cottage Neighborhood: Central Area
Built By: Year Built: 1899
The house is a fairly good example of Queen Anne design, although its design integrity may have been compromised somewhat by what appears to be an early addition at the northwest corner of the structure.

This is one of approximately 2,200 houses that are still extant out of more than 5,000 that were built by the end of 1906 in Seattle’s Central Area, Eastlake, First Hill, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, and North Capitol Hill neighborhoods.

A complete permit history and record of ownership and occupation have not yet been prepared for this property; however, Glen M. Ownes owned the house from about 1920 until at least 1937. Anna Owens appears to have sold the house to Willie Rolax in 1961. The current owner is Fannie M. Rolax.

King County Property Record Card (c. 1938-1972) Washington State Archives

King County GIS Center Property Report (; accessed July 29, 2008)

This is a single story, shingle, clapboard, drop siding, and vertical board siding clad, wood frame duplex on a three-quarter concrete, one-quarter post and beam foundation, over a three-quarter basement. The hipped roof with lower cross gables, the enclosed soffits, mixed cladding, and the turned columns and spindle work at the porches, are all elements customarily associated with Queen Anne design.

The structure was built in 1899 (King County Assessor’s Property Record Card; the King County GIS Center Property Report, accessed July 29, 2008, gives the date as 1900). A flat roofed addition of unknown but early date is located at the northwest corner of the structure. Some windows appear to have been replaced with aluminum sash.
