Schack, Young and Myers was a well-known firm Seattle architects and engineers who designed many commercial buildings in the 1920s. The firm designed several other buildings in the University District including the Eldridge Buick dealership on the corner of NE 45th Street and Roosevelt Way and the Gelb Building on University Way.. James Hansen Schack and David John Myers were architects, and Arrigo M. Young was an engineer. The firm was founded in 1920, and Myers left the firm in 1929. Most designs by Schack, Young & Myers were in academic eclectic styles. Frederick V. Lockman was an architect who lived and had offices in the University District. His other work includes the Lewis Building at 47th and University Way NE.
This ecclesiastical Gothic Revival structure has a U-shaped plan, with the main transept located on the north side. The structure is sited facing west on the lot. The roof is gabled and the building is clad in brick. The main transept on the front elevation has a compound pointed arched portal. Above the main entrance is a two-story recessed pointed arched window with terra cotta tracery. Windows similar to this, but smaller in scale, are repeated on the north side elevation. The south arm of the U-shape is three stories and has four and two-part narrow fixed windows on each floor. A covered walkway with a series of arches connects the two transepts.
