Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Vernacular Neighborhood: University
Built By: Year Built: 1908
This house is significant because of its size and location; it is one of the largest houses extant in the vicinity. The house is also reminiscent of the Queen Anne style, without the decorative detail. The architect and/or builder are unknown. From 1934-1944, Anna Loughlin, the widow of Jasper B. Loughlin, lived in the house. Anna Loughlin was a dressmaker. From 1944 until the late sixties, Mrs. Addie F. Howard occupied the house.
Built in 1908, this house is sited facing west on its lot. The house is two stories; the roof is cross-gabled with parallel gables to the side. The majority of the clapboard siding is intact, although some has been replaced with wider aluminum siding on the south side. The shingle siding on the pediments is still intact. On the front elevation there is a porch that runs the full width of the house; a hipped roof supported by heavy square posts tops the porch. The front entrance is on the side of the front gable, where the front gable meets the side gables. There is a single fixed window on the first story of the front gable elevation. On the second story of the front gable, there is a pair of double-hung windows. On the second floor of the front gable of the pair of parallel gables, there is a row of three multi-paned windows that turn the corner to connect with a row of five multi-paned windows. A bay window with a row of three fixed windows is on the first floor of the front parallel gable.
