Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Arts & Crafts - Craftsman Neighborhood: University
Built By: Year Built: 1918
This house is significant as an intact example of a Craftsman bungalow. It is one of the best examples of a working-class bungalow in the area. The architect and/or builder are unknown. It was owned and occupied by J. C. Pennock and his wife Lois H. Pennock from 1929-37. J. C. Pennock was a repairman for the PT&T Co. The house changed hands frequently thereafter. A similar building next door was also built at the same time.
This one story Craftsman Bungalow was built in 1918 and is sited facing west on its lot. The house has a low-pitched gabled roof, facing the street, with wide overhanging eaves. The shingle siding is original and remains intact on all elevations. The gables have a peaked and flared roofline. The front porch is partial width with a roof that is supported by sloping columns above brick piers. The porch has been altered slightly; the steps have been moved from the front of the porch to the north side of the porch. To the north of the front entrance there is a row of three double-hung windows with decoratively patterned upper sashes. To the south of the front entrance there is a single fixed window with a decorative upper sash. The decorative sash can be seen on many of the other windows on the side and back elevations.
