1170 Republican Street consists of three original single family houses that date from 1911. As a group, they form a very striking ensemble and are one the last remnants of Cascade’s original housing stock. Despite their transformation from single family houses to engineer’s office, with low clapboard sided walled areas, they retain their original overall form and scale and siding, which matches the original clapboard siding. The original detailing still remains in the repeated brackets, the porch of the first house, the small attic windows and the hipped roof and dormer of the most western house. Alongside 1172 Republican Street, which is virtually intact, this ensemble projects an even more powerful image of the scale and form of the original residential single family blocks in Cascade during the 1910s. (see 1172 Republican St)

Appearance
1170 Republican Street consists of three one story single family wood frame houses, with clapboard siding, linked by low walled areas, clad with the same siding. Distinctive elements include the gabled roofs of the first two house forms, as well as the first house’s porch and the hipped roof and front dormer of the last “house” to the west. Detailing includes repeated brackets and the small square attic windows of these first two houses. Clerestory windows with divided lights now run below the attic level of the two houses to the west, above the clapboard sided walls.
