Summary for 2212 Federal AVE / Parcel ID 2207500145 / Inv #

Historic Name: Porter, Charles, House Common Name:
Style: Arts & Crafts - Craftsman Neighborhood: Capitol Hill
Built By: Year Built: 1913

Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance.
This is an extraordinary example of a Craftsman bungalow, with a plethora of angled gables, and a porch roof supported by river rock piers. It appears that the house grew over time, beginning with a basic rectangular bungalow in 1913, with more gabled roofs added to the front (all of these additions appear to have been made many forty or more years ago).. The first known owner was Charles T. Porter, who bought the house in 1919 and may have been responsible for the additions.

Appearance
This bungalow has a double-gabled side gable roof with a shallow gabled dormer on the main (west) side. Below this main roof, on the front, is a large shallow gable, with another one in front of it, angled toward the north, and a third one angled sharply toward the south. The roofs form an at-grade covered porch across the front of the house; these roofs are supported by groups of wood suports sitting on large river rock piers. The large chimney in front is also of river rock. The gables have large brackets Windows are one-over-one sash, mostly arranged in groups of two or three.
