Summary for 2109 N 38th ST N / Parcel ID 408330 / Inv #

Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Tudor - Cottage Neighborhood: Wallingford
Built By: Year Built: 1928
This tudor cottage was erected in 1928 by owner and builder Lunde & Stor. The architect is not listed on the building permit, suggesting that the structure was designed by the builder or constructed from a set of stock plans or a pattern book. Built toward the end of the second building boom north of Lake Union, it exemplifies the work of North End merchant builders working in the tudor cottage mode. The house is appears to be intact and is significant as one of a very small number of tudor style structures in Wallingford with curved.
This is a 1-1/2 story brick clad frame residence on a concrete foundation over a full basement. The structure has a steeply pitched roof, curved side gables and a street façade dominated by a single prominent curved cross gable. The steep roof, side gables, close cornice and close rake are typical features of the tudor cottage style. The patterned brickwork includes lighter colored bricks at the window and door and at the entry arch. The lighter colored bricks were also used to fashion false quoins at the corners of the building. Double hung and fixed sash windows replace the more typical casement windows in this particular example of the style. At the main floor, the window assemblies lighting the two reception rooms each consist of a single large fixed sash unit flanked by two narrow double hung units, the latter featuring a small divided upper sash over a larger undivided lower sash. There are paired double hung windows in the gables, each with a small six lite upper sash over a larger undivided lower sash. The basement garage was part of the original design and the garage door does not appear to have been replaced.
