SDCI Closures, Service Updates, and Inspection Requirements

SDCI customer service areas remain closed until further notice and continue offering services online. King County has approval from the State Department of Health to allow all private construction activities that are low-risk and adhere to strict COVID 19 Job site Requirements. The City of Seattle has issued requirements for construction projects seeking inspections. The City WILL NOT INSPECT any site that does not follow these requirements.


Summary: The Seattle Building, Fire and Electrical codes each contain requirements for back-up power systems. The three types of systems, as classified by the Seattle Electrical Code, are emergency, legally required standby, and optional standby power systems. The Building and Fire codes specify which building systems require emergency or legally required standby power; the Electrical Code specifies how the power system is to be installed. This Tip explains the basic code provisions regarding emergency and required standby power and how they are coordinated in the codes.
