SDCI Closures, Service Updates, and Inspection Requirements

SDCI customer service areas remain closed until further notice and continue offering services online. King County has approval from the State Department of Health to allow all private construction activities that are low-risk and adhere to strict COVID 19 Job site Requirements. The City of Seattle has issued requirements for construction projects seeking inspections. The City WILL NOT INSPECT any site that does not follow these requirements.

Summary: Rockeries have long been common landscaping and erosion control features in Seattle. Proper rockery installation is the key to their long-term stability and safety. The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) does not consider rockeries to be retaining walls. Different and stricter structural standards than those contained in this Tip apply to retaining walls. Rockeries require firm, stable soil to provide part of their support and do not have sufficient structural strength to act as retaining walls. The standards in this Tip apply only to rockeries, not to structures used as retaining walls, whether constructed of rocks or any other material.
